What Maruti teaches Management ?

Terrible incident at Manesar Maruti plant leaving one HR manager dead and 100 injured. Plant is locked down for 3 weeks now. Waiting period for Dzire is 5 months now. With no clear picture on when the plant is going to operate Maruti will lose its valuable customers. What went wrong with Maruti?

Maruti are known for reading customers minds. They know the Indian market very well than any other competitor. How they lost their way in not knowing their workers? Is it because of too much importance to profits and bottom line growth and negligence towards workers. Arresting people based on criminal acts won't solve the issues. Workers won't be driven to such utmost mayhem unless there is serious issue. This is a much deeper problem where management has to be blamed. I feel this may open new ways in management.

1. Importance to Industry Relations
With services industry growing fast for past 2 decades, IR job is over looked. There has not been good talent groomed in this area. Shop floor roles are neglected by HR people. Time has come to revamp the strategies in manufacturing sectors.

2. People Management
People management has always been an important skill for any manager. Understanding workers requirements and managing them is the priority. Managers have a serious task of coping with foreign board and Indian workers. Foreign top management are at times restrained in knowing workers. Its the responsibility of Indian managers to address workers issues at right time.

3. Relationship and Trust
Relationship with the workers is the only way to move ahead without any problems. Trust with the management has to be created with the managers. The valid demands have to be addressed in unbiased way. Suspending and kicking out people won't solve the issue.

4. Social discontent
Profit motive alone won’t let a company prosper. It is the social life of workers that help sustain the company in long term. Workers are discontent with the top management earning a lot and it is their hard work which is increasing their salaries. Salaries at top are better off and workers wages are increased only marginally.

It is time to make some serious changes to the policies and bring in some public mode of administration for better managed systems. Changing policies and mode of recruitment for contract workers may or may not solve the issue. Only when people's interest are satisfied real problem will be solved.

SACHIN - Please make a call on ODIs

The post may contradict the views of many Indians who worship Sachin as God. Sachin has been a great inspiration and honor to our country. No doubts about that. I grew watching Sachin. No one can deny he is one of the greats in history who have played cricket. None can imagine to break his records. No one can match his humility. But there has been something that bothers me recently since his world cup stint.

Whole cricket world has been waiting for the 100th century which eventually came in a controversial way.  Slow 100 in a pitch where the target was never a competing one. He could have done better. As 100th century took a great toll on him, I would give the benefit of the doubt to him. It was never easy to carry the high hopes every time you go to bat. But Sachin should have done better that day.

But the reason I am writing the post is for another reason totally. Recently Sachin has started making calls on when to play and when not to for the team. Getting rest for a series can be acceptable due to continuous schedule. But now-a-days Sachin regularly keeps him away from sub-continental matches. I strongly feel that this is not good for a team. When many young players start to show their talent, I personally believe that it is time for Sachin to retire from ODI.

If Sachin is not going to play next world cup, there is no point sticking in the team and playing matches in Australia and South Africa. Young team should be allowed to play in such conditions. Let the youngsters to gel well as a team and play. Every time Sachin enters the ODI squad, the team composition changes and so is the team dynamics. Its high time to let youngsters explore foreign conditions. They should be allowed to try their combinations. Preparing for the next world cup can be too early, but there are many bright and promising youngsters who are waiting for the opportunity.

With Dravid retired from Test, Sachin holds the great responsibility of building a solid test team. So, its time for him to make a call on ODIs and mould the test team. Our ODI team is in a well to do position without Sachin. Gone are the days when we needed Sachin to win a match in ODI. With all due respect, Sachin- you made us proud. you made us happy. you made us cry. you made us angry. you made cricket our religion. But its now time to say good bye from ODIs.

I fight human trafficking

Its been a long time I wrote. Not because that I did not find time. The lousy truth was I did not want to spend time writing. This can not be explained. Here I am, back with a message, that I have been supporting for a year almost.  Human trafficking. A social initiative from SCMHRD called S.H.A.P.A.T.H which fights against human trafficking. Combating Human Trafficking and bringing about a change in the lives of victims with alternate means of livelihood has been the vision of S.H.A.P.A.T.H.

S.H.A.P.A.T.H stands for Symbiosis Headstart for Awareness, Prevention and Action against Trafficking of Humans. This was kick-started in year 2008 from my college seniors. In the first year of its inception, it undertook a city wide awareness drive about the menace of Human Trafficking across Pune. It conducted an education drive to sensitize the students across schools and colleges in Pune on this grave issue. To convey the message to the Pune citizens, it performed street plays, conducted laptop drives and a peace march in Pune. It also conducted a seminar where eminent personalities from NGOs, Corporates, the Police, the Law Council and students from various B- Schools were invited to share their concerns and experience.

Every year  S.H.A.P.A.T.H  performs Band drive in the city of Pune for 2 days. The concept behind the band is not only to collect funds but also to garner support for the cause by having more and more people wear our bands. S.H.A.P.A.T.H adopted the Government run rescue centre in Mundhwa, PUNE for the trafficked victims. They do rehabilitation programs with help of community college. Girls over are are trained on various programs like candle making, Jewel making, Perfume making. Also motivational programs are taken up.

S.H.A.P.A.T.H also tied up with Apne Aap Women Worldwide and took part in their signature campaign (COOL MEN DON'T BUY SEX) demanding change in the legislature against human trafficking. Around 10000 signatures were collected and have been mailed to President of India. S.H.A.P.A.T.H takes a stand to end human trafficking.
Join hands with S.H.A.P.A.T.H.

Stolen from dreams
Her lifeless body becomes devil's meal
She asks ‘why life is so harsh’
But answers never come
Lives life of a torn clothAnd her self-respect her soul flies
Is this life has to offer her
No air in her lungs...
No strength in her body...
Her pain pours like rain
She is not for sale
She cannot be bought
For God knows life is priceless
